DPM Magneto-Mechanical Recoil System for Handguns
I wrote in an earlier article about the DPM Systems Mechanical Recoil Reduction System for semi-auto pistols. By itself, the mechanical system is very effective and is already in use by police officers and other tactical shooters. However, DPM Systems has taken this concept one step further with the addition of a magnetic accessory as an option making it an Advanced Magneto-Mechanical Recoil System. The idea with this is that in addition to the three-spring mechanical guide rod that progressively slows the slide and prevents it slamming to the rear, they added a magnetic part that attaches to the frame rails on pistols that have rails. The magnetic force on the slide delays the initial unlocking of the barrel and slide for a fraction of a second. During this pause, the chamber pressure is allowed to drop a little further after the bullet has left the barrel and before the chamber is opened. This lower chamber pressure on the walls of the case allows the case to be extracted much more easily requiring less rearward force on the slide to unlock the action. This results in the slide moving more gently to the rear and transferring less energy into the frame. The energy that is still imparted to the frame is buffered by the mechanical spring system resulting in less felt recoil and further reduced muzzle flip and smoother operation overall. The mechanical system works either with or without the magnetic system attached, so if you need to remove the magnetic system to attach a light, you still get the benefits of the mechanical system. It is really an ingenious system that works very well. Do not confuse this system with other, two-spring, recoil systems that have been on the market for decades. This system is totally different; it feels better and works better. So, beware of opinions out there written by people who have never actually tried this system themselves and assume that it is the same as other systems they have seen. Those who have tested it have endorsed it. This system was tested and recommended by the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA). It was also tested by gunblast.com.
